The Adventures of Monkey Business Event : Monday, 29th January - Burn's night dinner. Compsoc's attempt to eat REAL food and not drink coffee for one night. All the haggis, nips and tatties you can shove down your throat. Oh and whisky wouldn't go amiss. Report : Well, it started off ok. Me, Paul and Simon did most of the cooking of course, as we get to about as real life as we can get. So, Paul attempted to make Microsoft Haggis v2.0 - a bit like haggis, but not the real thing of course. But it did do a pretty good job at pretending to be it. Anyway, besides Mark and Micheal moaning a lot about what's not being do right, I thought we did an ok job of cooking. Of course, the Weakest Link was on while we eat the night away. And one by one left and PotatoHead was the last one to leave at 11pm - it was relatively quiet night - the whisky wasn't even half drunk. Anyway, as usual, I got lumbered with the washing up afterwards ... Geeks eh? Event : Friday, 2nd February - Coding night. This game thing will finally get away on my kitchen table and Mark's laptop. (Yeah, anyone who has a laptop, bring it). Report : After coming back from a very tiring rugby training session, I was greeted by the prospect of having Compsoc round for a massive all-nighter coding session. Oh boy, the fun eh? So, having half of the geeks arriving by 9.30pm, we had to wait ages for the other half to turn up before we could start - not mentioning any names - Micheal, Mark and Paul! So, after waiting and watching loads of tv, it was 12am before we could start. Pretty good going eh? Another 2 hours followed while we talked about what this game was to entail and what it was to include, until I said to them that we can't possibly start writing a game which included a virtual environment, RPG, chat and networking all in one go - it'll take years for professionals to it, so how can we have a go as our first project? After another hour of convincing them of this, half the kids decided to leave - Paul to start of with, so I think he lose at least 10 geek points for not making it through the night. Not to mention Bruce and Alex left soon after too ... We had a brief interlude of Mark noticing a fire across the block. I told him to leave it - but after persuasion from him and the Monkey that we should phone the Fire service, I did. The woman on the other end of the phone didn't believe me at all. Which I was a bit annoyed about. I passed the phone to Mark and he convinced her to come and check it out. So after not believing me, they sent 3 fire engines round to make up for it! Anyway, they managed to put the fire out and the rest of the night entailed me and Mark installing Linux on Alex's laptop, and David playing some random game, while me and Micheal decide to work on the version 1 of this virtual environment that we were suppose to write. In the pipeline ... The Compsoc "The Weakest Link" Night. Can you imagine? All the "Weakest link" you can ever watch. All the imitation of Anne Robinson too. Can you afford to miss it? I think not!
