CompSoc About Compsoc CompSoc (the Edinburgh University Computer Society) was formed by me, Mark Miles, Paul Hamilton, Simon Brown, Micheal Eng and several others at the start of this year (2000). The aim of the society is to encourage the learning of computers at the university (or something like that ...) But the secondary aim is to get as many of the computer science students away from their computers, get them plastered every Wednesday afternoon, and see whether they would go Scrubbing or (Potter)Rowing afterwards. Why does everyone think Compsoc is a geek soc? Well, because everybody associates computers with geeks. Which is wrong. There are geeks in every subject, in every faculty, not just computer science. So the general public is wrong. Wrong beyond belief. Everyone who has an interest in computers should join Compsoc. Cos we ain't geeks - well, not all of us - and we don't talk about computers all the time. The real aim of Compsoc To put it simply: To take over the world. (In true Pinky and the Brain stylee). When do we hatch up our plans Every Wednesday, 3pm at The Peartree House (or, as Mark once described it as "The Compsoc"). So come and join us. We do have loads of good chat. I think. Latest Project Our latest project is the Compsoc game project. Basically, we're trying to write a game - in java - which is a simulation of the real world. I'll write more about it once I get time to read it all, but in the meantime, go here for the project notes. The geekest member of the society I'm torn between Mark and Micheal. Although Micheal does not freely acknowledge it, he is the ultimate dodgy geek. With the exception of the fact that he has his password on a sticky note stuck to his computer with the word "PASSWORD" above it. Because of the stupid things he and the rest of Compsoc does, I decided to write a page called Monkey Business detailing the stupidest of some CompSoc members. But then I realized that since Compsoc events and adventures plus stupidest of Compsoc members go hand in hand, I've decided to merge the two together to form : The Adventures of Monkey Business ...
